Our BonHanZA team member Konrad Peukert from the University Hospital Bonn was awarded the first place in the Experimental Medicine Research Prize at the DIVI Congress 2024.
His research focuses on how the enzyme caspase-1 contributes to lung tissue scarring in different phenotypes of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The findings reveal that activation of the inflammasome-caspase-1 signaling pathway significantly promotes pulmonary fibrosis, particularly in direct ARDS. These insights mark significant progress in refining the phenotyping of ARDS patients and provide a foundation for uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying fibrosis in ARDS.
